Trip of a lifetime to Everest Base Camp

14 May, 2014

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014 NEW

We recently trekked to Everest base camp with Destination Unlimited and attest that the trip was 10/10. We are a couple from Toronto, Canada (age 28 & 31, average fitness).
From the moment we landed in Kathmandu, Destination Unlimited has taken excellent care of us – airport pick-up, booking our hotels, exchanging money, every aspect imaginable.

Our trek to EBC was an incredible experience. I highly recommend that you leave buffer time for the flights in and out of Lukla as flights may be canceled due to weather. Also, depending on your country’s altitude I would recommend that you go on Diamox as I got sick on day 2 of the trip to Namche (signs and symptoms include headache, tachycardic, cold). Our guide was highly attentive and recommended that I rehydrate, which to my
surprise really alleviated some of the symptoms.

Guides and porters at Destination Unlimited are excellent and needless to say, we developed a great rapport with them and thoroughly enjoyed their company during the trek. I would say that this is a very important aspect to consider as we met groups who did not like their guide and their trekking experience was tinted with dissatisfaction.

Furthermore, we met people along the way who got sick and the first thing their guides recommended was to be helicoptered down – easy way to make a quick dollar (that being said, it is very important to note signs of altitude sickness and should not be taken lightly, know your body and its limits). Overall, the trek was definitely more intense than anticipated and I feel that no amounts of walks on the treadmill on its highest incline would have prepared me for this climb. There were numerous occasions where I had to
take a break every few minutes, but slow and steady wins the race. Do remember to

wear sunscreen as my partner was burnt in and around his neck and ear area. If you are considering whether or not you should get hiking poles – get them! Don’t make the same mistake as us by getting EVERYTHING back home, Kathmandu has everything imaginable and for a much better price; things include quick-dry towel, thick socks, hat, poles. Things that I do recommend to get at home would be (of course) your hiking boots, energy bars, electrolyte drinks (get multiple flavours!), water purification tablets,
multiple camera batteries. As for the trek, try to wake up early one of the days and catch sunrise, it’s absolutely amazing! Also, remember to look up once every few steps and enjoy the view!

Lastly, we had had a couple of days before flying back to Canada and Destination Unlimited booked all of our hotels and day trips for us (not to mention, at a discounted price!). We chose Destination Unlimited based on previous raters on Trip Advisor and are very glad we have done so. Undeniably, Ashok IS as amazing as previous raters say

and I as others have mentioned – highly recommend Destination Unlimited for your trekking adventures.( Celina Wu from Canada)

Amazing service: Everest Base Camp Trek

15 May, 2017

We just finished 2-week EBC trek last week. It was a terrific trekking experience. We are group of 7 with different physical fitness. Our tour guides Dev and Badal were definitely attentive to each member condition and capability. They truly delivered outstanding service in a very genuine and sincere manner. They make sure those who walked behind could keep up with people in front with extreme patience and encouragement. After we reached EBC, the group needed to split up as some member needed to fly home unexpectedly earlier, they went extra to help them re-book the domestic and international air tickets. When the weather was bad to flight, they called the airline easily 20-30 times to get the most updated status. They tend to our most minor needs not during the trek , but also when we rest at night. I remember one time the solar hot shower did not work properly because it was a cloudy day, Dev carried buckets of hot water to us (rest assure we did not abuse him here :)), we did not know he went that extra for us and were so touched).

EBC itself is magnificent, but what made our trip truly a success is the experience we had with our travel agent, from Ashok – Mr Boss 🙂 who is in Kathmandu, helping us organize and arrange the trip, no matter what time you asked the question, his responses were always spot on, to our guide Dev and Badal who are very patience, encouraging, friendly and attentive to details, to our friendly porters Mama, Abishek etc.. We did not just receive the top notch service in the trek, but even when we got back to Kathmandu. They made sure your day is fulled with event and adventure!

Last but not least, the most memorable moment i had with them was on the last day when they sent us to the airport. It was election day, no transportation in Kathmandu till 6pm (you need to obtain special license to drive around !!!). Our flight was at 9pm and we need to leave t he hotel around 6.30pm.. Ashok and Dev WALKED 2 hours from their house to our hotel, just to send us off to the airport! 2 hours walk in a dusty city definitely a great deal to many of us, but there they were, waiting patiently and sincerely. How could we not go to them again in our adventure in Nepal? The relationship we have built up with the company , not simply just between agent and customers, it’s more a relationship between friends.

I strongly recommend whoever considers booking a tour in Nepal to use Destination Unlimited Treks & Expeditions. It is not only about the professional service you would receive, but it is also about the interactive friendship that you would be able to build with the company.
